Our Story
Peppermint & Brown was established in 2019 by two Besties who love Design, Shopping for fun, unique products and who just loved spending time together, so why not start our own Business?
We initially planned to purchase a local General Store in the lovely little town of Port Gamble, Washington. When we were advised that the town was being sold and most of the Businesses would be replaced by Housing within the next 5 years, we knew it wasn't the right move for us.
We were both working full time for the same Company and were a Team of Two Business Managers with a large Territory for a Cabinet Manufacturer.
My Bestie is an extremely talented Kitchen and Bath Designer with more than 25 years experience, we actually met when she was running a Business and I was her Rep. for a National Cabinetry Manufacturer.
Her heart's true desire was to start her own Cabinetry & Interiors Business, which she did and is currently Owner/CEO of an extremely lucrative Business! She's a #RockStar, I am beyond proud of her! We are still, and will always be Besties!
My heart was still into having a little Shop, I didn't know how, where or if it was going to happen, I did know I was going to try to figure something out!
There is an amazing Vintage Store in beautiful downtown Poulsbo, Washington, I'd shopped there many times and loved it! It's like a Marketplace with close to 20 Vendors! Every Vendor has their own style, which makes it fun to look for treasures throughout the entire Store! The location is fantastic, on the Waterfront with a beautiful Marina and surrounded by Quaint Shops & Restaurants. The Store is "Red Plantation". It's one of the most popular Stores in the area and wins Awards every year!
My Husband and I had been dabbling in refinishing Furniture, doing some painting, distressing, refurbishing and adding Transfers. I contacted the Owner of Red Plantation via phone, emailed photos of the work we were doing and was very consistent! (pretty sure she was sick of me bugging her!) One day I just walked in and caught her at a good time, not too many Customers were there.
We talked for close to an hour, hit it off really well and after a year of trying to get in, I got a call from her a couple days later saying she had good news and she had a space for us! It felt like a dream come true!! It's not easy to get in, no one ever wants to leave!
Since that time, we have loved having our little Shop within the Store, it's fantastic! The Owner is fun, creative, has a great personality and we Vendors are like Family. The perfect scenario!
My Husband & I are doing this together and have a great time junking, catching Estate Sales, going to Markets and Barn Sales. He does beautiful furniture repair, refinishing, refurbishing & painting and has become very skilled (he's always been skilled with wood, tools, building, etc). I create Designs using Decoupage and Transfers on 100 year old Windows.
We have sourced some fun products for the Store that we love and decided to share some of the smaller items online - easy and less costly to ship!
We are committed to offering quality products and taking the best care of our Customers! I learned many years ago - it's all about relationships and offering a Superior Customer Experience! We hope you have fun checking us out & we appreciate it!
